Ronny Parker has always been aware that there was more to life outside of his Harlem apartment. When he goes to work one morning at Starbucks, he finds himself coming face to face with a reality that he was not prepared for. He finds himself the eyewitness to a fight between two shifters, a wolf and a lion, one of which bites Ronny and calls him “mate.” When Ronny wakes up the next morning he finds himself thrust into a world neither his family, nor his teachers ever taught him about and he does the only thing he can do. He starts to investigate.
Cole Tronk has been taught from an early age that he is never to mate a human, never reveal his true nature to a human and that he cannot be gay. But when he gets into a fight with his oldest friend outside of a Starbucks and finds himself smelling the most intoxicating scent ever, he throws all of those rules out of the window. Before long, Cole and his mate, Ronny are on the run from the governing body of the paranormals, humans who have now discovered that paranormals, magicks and supernaturals exist, and someone from Ronny’s past who is determined to kill them both.
Along the way, Cole and Ronny meet up with a group of paranormals, magicks, and supernaturals who are also gay, and who are researching the true history of the world and creation. What they find will not only change their lives, but the entire world and the future. Will Ronny and Cole’s mating survive all of these obstacles and when a millennias old lie comes back to bite them in the ass, will Ronny and Cole be able to deal with the consequences?

SPOILERS AHEAD YOU ARE WARNED!3.5 stars and the reasons why:
This is the first book I've read by Vicktor Alexander. For the price and length of the book I was expecting more than the typical m/m shifter story. Some of that came through but not enough to satisfy what I wanted.
The Beginning (Sons of Adam) looks to be the first in a new series. It's written that way, leaving open ended problems and safety issues for Ronnie and Cole's pack. So while Ronnie and Cole have their HEA, this is just the beginning. They are on the run and it looks to be a long drawn out series before they're able to settle in one place and feel safe.
It wasn't just the open ended over arching plot that wasn't resolved. The pacing of the story was too slow for me. Some parts went very quickly but others dragged. Interesting that Cole's alpha couldn't locate him for months. So I assume this alpha was with his two betas looking for Cole instead of watching over their own pack problems. If this lion shifter alpha was as good or as bad, he'd at least be doing all he could to keep his pride safe. Instead he's out with his two top men doing who knows what in hunting down Cole.
So Cole takes out the lion alpha. Did the pride bonds kick into place and Cole is now their alpha, even if he's away from them? No. Nothing is said. Despite Cole not wanting the job, he is now alpha from winning a challenge. I understand the country is in an uproar but basic shifter laws are still there. . . Yet . .. nothing is said. The challenge was there, Cole won, and we're left guessing what that means to the lion pack.
As a first book in the series The Beginning (Sons of Adam) did give us an overview of the world, situations involving the main characters, their pack, and details on the history and background for shifters. The story was well written and plotted. Unfortunately the back and forth on the founding / beginning of the shifters and their spot in our world. . . There was so much explained on that back story, I ended up skipping every single instance of those parts. Sure, Ronnie has this book, a bible and is either reading it or dreaming of it. Sure it's important. Suspend reality and yes the people from that story appear to him and his mate and advise of what's to come.
And that's where the slow parts happened for me - The advice was there but the results on taking action weren't. There was a time lapse between when these ancient visitors appeared and when something would happen. Well, guess what? Nothing happens. All Ronnie and Cole do in this story is gather people and run for their lives. So that in itself was a let down. Everything expected of Ronnie and his role in this world is suspended until the next book. I expected more. -- Dan's Wife

The Beginning Sons of Adam Book 1 edition by Vicktor Alexander Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
As with all of Vicktor's books the main characters Ronny and Cole are very relatable and their story and romance is believable. This book has a little bit of something for everyone there are shifters, elves, witches, vampires and those good 'ol humans. While this book concentrates on the love between a lion shifter (Cole) and a human (Ronny) I think other books in the series may showcase some of the other species mentioned. Can't wait for that!
But for me I think the best part of this book is the premise that our version of the Bible is incomplete and misquoted. This is so interesting and allows us to examine our views on religion and our world in such a unique way.
I want to thank Vicktor as always for helping me to examine the human condition in a new way and learn more about myself. Love your writing and can't wait for the next book in the series.

I purposely didn’t read the blurb before I started reading the book, so I had no preconceptions about what the book was about. To be honest, while reading the prologue I was thinking to myself, oh bloody hell what have I gotten myself into? There were so many brothers of Adam that I just knew I wouldn’t be able to keep them straight. The prologue did though set the stage for the background of the story and helped start us learning about an alternate history, that we, the Sons of Adam know nothing about.
Thankfully the hard names were only in the prologue! As soon as Chapter One began, we were in the current time, in Harlem. Right away we meet Ronny Parker, a 5’11” young black man who works as a barista at a coffee shop. Ronny takes the bus to work, but when he gets off the bus he hears sounds like arguing and fighting down the alley at the back of his employer’s shop. Imagine his surprise when he finds his co-worker Benjamin fighting with another man. It isn’t the fight that surprises him, but the fact that Benjamin has hands like wolf paws and the other man has hands that look like lion paws. Then they both shifted into animals! Once they see him they approach him, shifting back to human. Ronny is in for a bigger surprise when the lion man sniffs him, says “Mmmmm, Mate”.
The man introduces himself as Cole Tronk and within minutes he has bitten and claimed Ronny. What Cole has done, mating with a human, is against shifter law and he and Benjamin are both now going to be hunted and killed. Ronny, though innocent, will be killed as well.
Things get worse when Cole partially shifts when Ronny is threatened, and someone gets it on video on their camera. Overnight, the world knows about shifters and the hunt is on. Along the way we will learn that our whole concept of Biblical history is half true at best. I really liked the flashbacks as Ronny is reading “The Real Holy Bible What the Human Christians Don’t Want You to Know.” The image of Noah as a procrastinator was humorous.
This was an entertaining read. I really liked it, so I’m hoping there is a Book Two coming soon! I probably would have rated it a 4.5, but the lack of certainty of a sequel, and the open story lines made me hesitate. I highly recommend the book though. If you’re into shifters, and alternate Biblical history, with a touch of irreverence then this book is for you!
Love Vicktors books!! I enjoyed the storyline and can't wait for the next installment.
It was good wished it had been a little longer but still like I said it was good.Hope there's more soon.
An intriguing start to another wonderful series. It weaves the Bible with the paranatural world. The characters are realistic and fun. Can't wait for the next book.
I must say Love it and can't wait for the next book!! This book made me open "The Good Book" just to check on some of the story line. So great job on making me work for it. Keep up the good work, and can't wait for more.
